I am having the same problem with firefox 4. The fonts are quite horrible and actually, incorrect compared to what was being displayed with firefox 3.6.x.Eg. when using Yahoo mail, all the "have read" emails would show up in a regular font while the unread email subjects would show up in a bold font.
3. Anti-Aliasing Tuner is a very handy extension. Unfortunately, achieving better font quality than FF4 standard(with HA) is impossible. I found out that switching to ClearType - GDI Classic is almost perfect, but it comes at a very big cost: spacing between characters becomes a mess. I believe that the AA tuner has the same direct2d/write limitation that the mozilla devs are facing.
Firefox 4 doesn't display Lucida Sans correctly for me, but it was working fine on everyone else's Firefox 4, at work. I uninstalled and reinstalled a few times, no change. FInally, I decided to allow the Firefox 5 download and still the same problem when in all my other browsers, Chrome, IE, Safari were displaying Lucida Sans correctly. I had to revert back to FF3.6 for now. Once I did that Lucida Sans now looks exactly like it should. Very frustrating for a web developer. Please fix
Installing the hardware acceleration platform update for Windows 7 improved the quality of (font) rendering for hardware acceleration with Firefox 4, restoring ClearType alike quality. You can download the update at Microsoft download:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8400 @ 2.26GHz w/ X4500MHDdebian amd64 unstable with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.12.0+shadow-2 from experimental:HWACCEL test.iceweasel 3.6.10: 33 fpsfirefox 4.0b7pre: 40 fps
Hey, man. When did the chromium developers developed this feature? In my chromium 7, in the same ubuntu 10.04 with a radeon hd3200 where firefox 4.0b7 does 2fpx and chromium (without this parmeter) does 6fps, now with this parameter in command-line it (chromium) does 45fps! woow! Very fast!
However, IE 9 destroys firefox in some of the microsoft tests (speed reading IE9 gets 60 fps, FF4 gets 3 fps) and is slightly better in some of them (psychedelic browsing IE9 gets 1815 rev/sec, FF4 gets 1171 rev/sec). Anyone know why this is?
i reccomend you all NOT to activate the HW accel on firefox,(my fav browser) because it STILL SUCKS REAL BADuse google chrome 10DO NOT USE internet explorer, unless you are a virus collector and love the slow browsing it provides
Go to firefox option..then proceed to content>font and colour>advance...then select "bengali" in font for section..then you can see the 2 default fonts for bengali..just change these 2 fonts into "Adorsholipi"...nothing more to change...select ok and quit..now your prob is solved...:p:p
Help|About Firefox|Check for UpdatesAt least for the 4.0 I'm running. I've updated 4.0 once, but I see noindication of exactly which version I updated to; it still just says4.0, but both firefox and firefox-bin are dated March 14.And while we're at it, what is the purpose of these two files along withrun-mozilla.sh?
If you just can't wait any longer, download the Firefox 4 RC and see what it has to offer. Plus, you can help Mozilla improve and fix any last minute bugs before the big finale. See a full list of the new features here.
On 22 March 2011, and during the 24-hour launch period, Firefox 4 received 7.1 million downloads, as counted and verified by the Mozilla Foundation. Before that date, 3 million people downloaded the second release candidate of the browser, which later became the final version. As a result, the new version of the browser received 10 million downloads on the first day. Notwithstanding, it fell behind the previous record established by the launch of Firefox 3 in 2008, which was 8 million. Second-day downloads for the browser were reported to be 8.75 million, but the lack of an official representative from Guinness to monitor the numbers, made the record attained by Firefox 3 only unofficially been broken.
In despite that Firefox 4 RC is now available for everyone download, test and enjoy, I wanted to put together and share with everyone this great wallpaper collection that every Firefox fan boy should have in their desktops. Some the wallpapers are made from the Firefox logo and others are images from actual red foxes in the wild, enjoy!
In other notes, there is a really good chance that Firefox 4 will release the final stable version sometime at the end of February, as this was mentioned in downloadsquad. But we still have about some other betas and release candidates (RC) before the final release.
File size for 4.0-RC2 & 4.0 is exactly same. Once I install it takes me to -US/firefox/4.0/whatsnew/ page which is RC page. Its still confusing whether they are going to release RC2 as final version as there are no fixes after RC2 ?
During the run up to Firefox 2, we released beta builds and release candidates for wide testing and feedback as part of a community beta program. Anyone who downloaded and installed these pre-release versions of Firefox became part of this beta program and was automatically updated to the Firefox 2 final release.
If you are participating in this program, thanks for your continued help. Please report any problems or issues at our community feedback web site at or through the mozilla.feedback.firefox.prerelease newsgroup.
A tarball of the Firefox 2 source code will be available for download once the final release is made. The latest development code can be obtained by cvs. Firefox-specific source is in "mozilla/browser", "mozilla/toolkit", and "mozilla/chrome". Please follow the build instructions.

When an update is found, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the update. The application will need to restart to apply the update, but you can choose to restart later by pressing the Later button.
Software Update problems can sometimes be resolved by simply restarting the computer and then reopening your Mozilla application. Other update problems can be fixed by downloading the latest version of Firefox, Thunderbird, or SeaMonkey and installing the new version "on top of" your current version .
Another possible solution is to reset the Software Update feature by ending all Firefox processes and then removing "active-update.xml", "updates.xml" and the "updates" folder from the appropriate folder locations (see above). As a last resort, download the latest version of Firefox from www.mozilla.com and install it over your current version.
If Software Update errors persist, you can download the latest version of Firefox or Thunderbird from www.mozilla.com and install it "on top of" your current version, instead of using the Software Update feature.
Early in the testing cycle of the new software update, testers were required to enter a special update url into the preference app.update.url. This is no longer the case and in fact now that preference is almost ignored. Only the setting from the file firefox.js (or all-thunderbird.js) in the installation directory is used. This is so the application always uses the same updates regardless of what user profile you are running with. 2b1af7f3a8
